My Philosophy
With over 25 years of experience working in the mental health field, there are three things I hold to be true.
- Everything comes down to the relationship that can be developed between you and a therapist. It is through the relationship that change can take place. If you aren’t feeling comfortable, then you will not share in a manner that promotes healing. If you don’t think you can feel comfortable with me, then I’m not the therapist for you and that’s OK! I WANT you to find a good match as that’s where I believe true change can take place.
- YOU are the expert on you! I can be an expert on processes, skills and tools. But you know yourself best, even if you need help in uncovering what you want and need. MY job is to lay out the options to assist you in achieving your goals. Together, we will move toward health and healing.
- We often blame ourselves saying we could have done better. I believe we did the best we could at the time. We can learn and grow in order to do better but I don’t ever think people aren’t doing their best.
About Me
I graduated from Minnesota State University at Moorhead with a BA in Psychology and the University of North Dakota with a MA in Counseling. I spent 25 years at a community mental health center providing services to those struggling with chronic mental health issues, including managing a pilot program for the state of Minnesota and providing supervision for community based staff. I have been working in private practice for the last 2 years.
